Some people go around trying to convince everyone they know that they are an expert, that’s not what we’re talking about. Whether it’s work, home, or recreation, there is something that you are good at. Stop and think for a moment. You have knowledge and experience that no one else on earth has. So to be considered an expert, you simply need to mix a little modern technology with your own knowledge. It sounds so formal, but it doesn’t have to be.
Let me give you an example. A 15-year-old girl spends every day after school surfing MySpace. In a matter of seconds, she is able to communicate with all of her friends, add video and music to her page, join a related interest group, and add and delete widgets from her page. This may not sound very impressive, but there are millions of people who would have no idea how to perform these tasks. Do you know anybody like that?
So when you think of online instructor jobs, you probably think of some professor type, with gray hair and glasses, teaching a class, right? But here’s this 15-year-old girl, who is going to take everything she knows about MySpace, and compile it into an e-book. Then she will demonstrate her techniques and capture the screen on video in order to create a video tutorial. So, one day you find a MySpace tutorial online. You purchase it. You find it incredibly helpful, and before you know it, you are exploring every corner of MySpace with confidence. Does it ever cross your mind that the author of this tutorial is NOT an expert? Of course not. In your mind, the author is indeed a MySpace expert.
With this in mind, are you qualified for online instructor jobs? Of course you are! Follow this little girl’s lead. Find something you are comfortable discussing, explaining, and sharing. Mix in a little modern technology, and before you know it, YOU are the expert!
